We have seen many businesses lately who have trouble with maintenance and updates of their software solutions. The scheme is always the same:

  • you need an app for web or mobile,
  • you write specifications,
  • you hire a developer company
  • they deliver
  • you pay
  • the end.

Modern businesses need to understand that technology and all related markets advance too rapidly to have a static solution in place. When building a software solution, you should keep in mind that it is not a warehouse that will serve you for the next 50 years, but rather a dynamic piece of your business strategy that should be able to adapt quickly to the new conditions. For instance, in mobile apps continuous updates is one of the keys to success.

This being said, it is a huge error to hire “suppliers” to develop something for you. A supplier wants to deliver as quickly as possible and to get paid, he is not directly interested in the success of your business.
It is by far better to either:

A. Hire your own staff for development or
B. Look for long-term partnerships with development companies

In the first case (A) you are facing important costs and risks. B, on the other hand, has several advantages.

  • Minimal risk and costs on your side
  • The developer company gets paid on the performance of their own solution. Thus, they are very engaged and interested in making the solution serve best your business purposes.
  • The developer company has a huge incentive to maintain and further develop the solution. If your business grows – so does theirs.

When you look for development of software solutions (web, mobile, social, commerce,…), look for partners not suppliers.
